I think that I started watching anime because I was curious and tired. In my country, the most "popular" thing to watch are Netflix series, disney and soap operas.
In mid 2019 I got enough of that and I started watching Dbz.
But, why did you started watching anime, maybe a friend recommended you a anime and then you started as I usually heard?
In my case I just woke up one day and I just turn on the tv to watch anime.

Before, I always thought anime was super cringe and avoided it like the plague. I thought it was all like dragon ball z, characters yelling and a lot of lines to depict intensity and panning images to give the illusion of motion. Basically I just thought it was all trash. And it is- the better portion of it anyway. I didn't know anime contained some absolute gems

Long story short, everyone was raving about Your Name back in 2017, anime and non-anime watchers alike, so I just decided to give it a try for the heck of it. Liked it, and never looked back. Started with whatever was on netflix, and watched anime on and off. Early 2020 I started to watch anime more regularly and watched a different anime or two every week. And yeah, the rest is history

Used to watch shows like Doraemon, Shin-chan, Pokemon, Detective conan, Kochikame when I was a kid. But I didn't start watching a lot more until a classmate recommended a light novel of Sao to me.

You are like me, when I was younger I never thought that there were lots of gems there. That's the good thing when you jump into the void.
But I think that I got influenced by my family and friends that anime watchers are cringe and that kind of thing. Now I can say that it isn't like that, just some "stereotypes", or at least here.

Isn't Tamers the last one shown on Finnish tv (at least excluding pay television)? 20 years... That's a long time. Pretty crazy.

Anyways, I had no idea what anime was before my friend started talking about stuff like Fairy Tail and Fullmetal Alchemist, trying to get me watch them. I was hesitant even though I already watched western animations at that point. Then I went to a holiday resort with my parents but because it was kind of wrong time of a year (no attractions were really open, too much snow for some activities, not enough for others), I decided to check out what this "Fairy Tail" was about. That was my life whole week at that holiday resort, much worth it.

Yeah. It certainly takes some time to learn which anime are right for you, you have to watch a lot of anime, both good and bad. But now we've probably watched enough as to determine what anime we will probably like from first glance.

Yeah. For me it's not like months ago that I had to ask to my friends or looking some previews about what shall I watch or not. It's simpler now, I just go to seasonal animes before the season starts and then I choose what would I like.

Because i had to watch something, while waiting for school to start. So i had no other choice. And well, i ended up liking it. If i look back, most of the stuff i liked back in 2007 is actually bad, but still Nostalgic.

I used to watch anime on TV as a kid, however I started to seriously watch shows after, one summer of 15 years ago, I watched Detective Conan movie 16.
After that, I continue to watch the show and I got interested in other anime.

Got into it when I was in pre-school. Watched a few episodes of One Piece, and then I stopped. Then around the time I was in school, started picking up more animes, popular ones like One Punch Man, Tokyo Ghoul, Akame ga Kill, Assassination Classroom, safe to say I watched only popular ones around that time. I think I started to watch more anime and get into MyAnimeList was the time I started watching JoJo. From then on, I started to consistently watch anime on a daily basis.

Got into Naruto when I was 10 after watching this fanmade trailer by a pretty famous youtuber - nigahiga. Watched a few episodes, was hooked but eventually got overwhelmed by the insane amount of episodes + the fact that it was ongoing, and so I stopped watching...

Fast forward 7 years or so and there I was, watching ANOTHER naruto-related video by nigahiga and this sudden urge to give Naruto another shot came up. Ended up binging Shippuden in a couple weeks. And here I am.

Because I accidentally watched some anime on youtube, and I really liked how the stories went, or how the characters acted. Like there was Akame ga Kill, Masamune-kun no Revenge, Black Bullet, Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry, Clockwork Planet, Hajimete no Gal, like, I just really liked the artstyle and stories that feel "unique" to anime. Thanks to having interest in those anime, I ended finding anitubers like Glass Reflection and Mother's Basement, who reviewed a lot of anime that I found to be interesting. And the rest is history.
Neat.
Also neat.
And another.

And another one.

Boredom and the lack of interest in most other media. I like other types of shows, but ones that actually catch my interest are few and far between. And during the wait between seasons, there wasnt really much else I would watch aside from episodes I'd already seen. I wasnt as into games as I am now either. Then I saw Full Metal Alchemist on TV and that shit blew my mind, and I realised there was a huge mountain of shows I had never even heard of before.

Of course I was also young, so anime boobage played a big part too...

Inspired by somebody close to me and when I started watching anime it turned out I enjoyed anime series more than the western shows/ films that are prevalent in the UK...

Similar to above, I've probably ended up watching more anime than her in a short space of time 😅
